Animal World
Address: Square One Shopping Mall, Mississauga, ON
Description: This place may look like it only sells stuffed
toys, but it also sells fansubs (their Neon Genesis Evangelion collection is up
to #8 last time I checked), posters, and some cards. (JE)
Access: Plenty of parking, but because this is a (large)
mall, a decent spot can be hard to find. (JE)
If you are taking public transit in Mississauga, take any bus that goes to
Square One (Mississauga Transit recently built the City Centre Terminal at the
north end of Square One). If you are coming from the city of Toronto, take the
Bloor-Danforth subway to Islington Station, and then buy the two-fare adult
tickets for $3.75 at the Gateway Newsstand. From there, you can take one of
three bus routes (3, 20, or 26+ (26A or 26B)) to get to Square One. To board
Mississauga Transit Route #3, board at Islington Station Bus Bay 4. To board
either Mississauga Transit Route #20 or #26+, exit the station on the west side
near the dropoff point and head for the bus poles with the numbers 11, 20, and
26A/B. (LL)
On January 10, 2000... Mississauga Transit put up the transit fare an extra 10
cents. If you are still using old tickets... you have to deposit an extra 10
cents into the farebox. (LL - March 5, 2000)
On October 1, 2001... Route 20, 26A, and 26B have been allowed back into
Islington Station. (LL - November 25, 2001)

Dixie Park Centre
Address: 1150 South Gateway Road, Mississauga, ON, L4W 5G6
Hours: Monday - Saturday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM; Sunday: 9:00 AM
- 6:00 PM
Description: In addition to the stores mentioned below, there
is also a place that supplies fansub videos (a few Neon Genesis Evangelion, but
mainly Dragonball).
Access: Plenty of parking is available. From what I know
there has been little or no trouble finding a parking space. (J)
All secluded in one building. Parking is plentiful but all in one area, the
back. I fear for this place only because it is often empty when I go there. The
food court is popular for lunches by the surrounding businesses, though. (MN)
Take the Bloor-Danforth subway west to Islington station. Take the number 3
Mississauga Transit bus and get off at the intersection of Bloor and Dixie.
Take either the northbound 5, 17, or 85 express and get off at the intersection
of Dixie and Eastgate Parkway. Right on the intersection you should find it.
The building is coloured light maroon. (PB)
You can also start from Long Branch loop... which is located in Toronto and
take Mississauga Transit Route #5 or Route #85 Express and then follow the
directions from above. (LL - March 5, 2000)
Route 5 is now Route 5A Dixie (to Cardiff Blvd.) and Route 85 Dixie Express is
now Route 5B Dixie Industrial (to Courtney Park). (LL - November 25, 2001)

Pringo Trading (formerly Manly Trading Corp)
Address: Unit 123
Phone: (905) 282-0688
Description: Carries a lot of anime-related merchandise,
video tapes (mainly Dragonball and some Neon Genesis Evangelion), posters,
stickers, cards, and calendars. Slightly cheaper prices than UC Stationary and
Gifts. (DN)
The store is located on the ground floor beside a travel agency. Just recently
bought volumes 1 to 9 of Neon Genesis Evangelion there. They said they will
have the rest soon (volumes 10 to 13). NGE video tape prices are at $12.99
including tax in VHS format and you usually get an extra 10% off. Tip: Buy a
set and try to ask for it at 10 bucks a piece. Assorted DBZ is also available
usually at $10 each. And if you like Pikachus they have an assortment of
stuffed ones big and small. (PB)

UC Stationary and Gifts
Description: The store is located right next to the food
court. There is a large selection of cards here from Yu Yu to Dragonball to
Sailor Moon. Despite this, they haven't ordered any new, updated stuff recently
(such as Neon Genesis Evangelion), but this may change. They also have a small
selection of older Macross and Dragonball soundtracks, posters, and a few
computer games. (J)
UC I can't say much on. I think they are not getting too much new until they
sell off most of what they have left. They do sell cards as well. I even bought
a Ranma bookmark there. Sometimes you might find some stuff that you can't find
elsewhere. (MN)
The store has reduced their hours; they are only open on weekends now (April
29, 1998). (MN)
The store has closed. (MT - January 20, 2002)

Mika's Japanese Gifts
Address: 5700 Mavis Road, Unit 7, Mississauga, ON, L5V 2N6
Hours: Monday - Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM; Thursday - Friday: 10:00
AM - 7:00 PM; Saturday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM; Sunday: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Payment Accepted: Visa, MasterCard, Interac Direct
Description: Nestled amidst the "big box" blandness of Mississauga's
north end is Mika's, a small, friendly store that's crammed full of affordable
Japanese giftware. Although not dedicated to anime-related goods per se, Mika's
does stock a selection of Gundam models, trading cards, figures, and assorted
tie-in merchandise. Their real strength, though, is their phenomenal range of
bowls, sushi plates, tea and sake sets, knives, kitchen ware, assorted
ceramics, cards, and Japanese papers. Think of it as a "Home Outfitters" for otaku!

Mississauga Chinese Centre
Address: 888 Dundas Street E., Mississauga, ON
WWW: http://www.chinesecentre-west.com/
Description: B.G. Books and Peking Books are your best bets
here, but there are some stores that surround the food court that may be worth
the visit as well. (MN)
Access: There is plenty of parking, however there is also
usually plenty of visitors to this mall, so a good parking place may be hard to
find at times. (J)
It's kind of hard to miss because the centre is reminiscent of the Forbidden
City or other such palaces. Parking can be very hard and stressful at the
busiest times because the only way from the front area to the back is pretty
narrow and constantly used. If I visit there on weekends I make it a point to
park in the back. (MN)

B.G. Books and Gifts
Description: At this store can be found a wide selection of
books (translated in Chinese), videos (in Japanese with Chinese subtitles for
most if not all of them), and model kits, primarily Neon Genesis Evangelion and
Gundam (good prices!). (J)
B.G. Books I must note has merchandise from the "Piyo, Piyo" collection. Fans
of Maison Ikkoku might want to make note of that (no aprons to the best of my
memory though). They also have a small collection of wall scrolls, posters, and
cards as well. The books part is very true. (MN)

Sekyo
Address: Kanip Trading Corporation, 30 Eglinton Avenue W,
#12, Mississauga, ON, L5R 3E7
Phone: (905) 712-3844
Fax: (905) 712-3850
Description: Sekyo is a Japanese place that sells everything:
anime books, anime games (for Playstation, PC, Super Famicon, etc.),
soundtracks, videos, you name it! Right now, they're selling a lot of their
books for $1.50 a piece (titles such as Ranma 1/2 and Dragonquest), with some
of their other books going for $3.00+. Anime tapes (which are recorded from
television in Japan) are $10.00 each. Each tape comes with four different
cartoons. The more popular ones (such as Gundam X and Dragonball GT) come in
special tapes (up to four episodes of the series per tape). You can special
order anything that you don't see in the store, provided you know the name of
what you are looking for! I remember ordering a bunch of Neon Genesis books
there a while back... the "Eve" book was about $28 or so. Oh, and in most
cases, no tax! (JE)
Access: Sekyo is located at the corner of Hurontario St. and
Eglinton Ave. in Mississauga (somewhat close in proximity to Square One Mall).
There are two strip malls at the intersection; one with a Toys "R" Us, and the
other with an office building for Maple Leaf (the company that makes the cold
cuts - their symbol is near the top of the building).
Depending on the road that you enter the strip mall on, you might or might not
see it right away. If you turn on Eglinton, you should be fine; the word Sekyo
is in big red letters.
If you turn on Hurontario, however, the first thing you will be likely to see
in the strip mall is the Green Emerald restaurant. Drive towards the side of
the strip mall facing Eglinton and you should see it.
Now, when you enter the store, the first thing you will be able to see are
various foodstuffs (yes, it is a grocery store as well). The books and videos
are in a separate store located at the back of the grocery store, through a
door on your right. (JE)
If you are taking public transit in Mississauga, although you're not going
very far, take the Route #19 Hurontario (to Shoppers World via Square One) bus
from Square One to Eglinton and follow the directions above. (LL - March 5,
2000)
The anime store is not located at the back anymore... as soon as you enter the
store's entrance... it's on the center-right-hand side. (SA - March 18, 2000)
